ENJOY SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING AT THE WESTFIELD AREA Y’S AQUADUCKS 20TH ANNUAL WATER SHOW

Bring your family to see amazing acrobatics and graceful water dancing at the 20th Annual Synchronized Swimming Show featuring the Westfield Area Y Aquaducks. The popular fundraising exhibition will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 1:00 pm at the Westfield Area Y, 220 Clark Street in Westfield.

Talented girls from elementary through high school comprise the Aquaducks team, combining athletic swimming and dance skills synchronized to music.
The show includes multi-swimmer team routines as well as smaller solos, duets and trios. This year, audiences will enjoy performances to a variety of music – from current pop hits to popular movie soundtracks– as well as the hilarious antics of the “Aquadads and Bros,” featuring some of the team’s brave male family members.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12 and all proceeds go to support the team. Tickets are available at the Welcome Center of the Westfield Area Y or through team members. Snacks, gifts and raffles will also be available.

Synchronized swimming has come light years from the original water ballet of Esther Williams.  Now these performance athletes include dramatic leaps and
throws throughout their routines.  As you watch one girl rise into the air, remember that underneath her the rest of the team is forming an elevating structure with only their own bodies, and then kicking furiously to push her up
through the water…all with a smile!  The girls typically practice 6-12 hours a week in order to build their endurance and harmonize their movements, and the performances leave audiences breathless.

As the only competitive team in New Jersey, the Aquaducks must travel for meets as far away as Binghamton, NY and Andover, MA. Many of the Aquaducks’ routines regularly qualify to participate in the Age Group Nationals meet, which invites only the top age group athletes to the largest synchronized swim meet in the world.  This year Nationals is in Riverside, CA. The annual show raisesfunds to help defray the cost of the team's travel all over the U.S.  The shows often sell out early, so please purchase tickets in advance to ensure you don’t miss out.  For more information about the show or the team, contact Coach Kate Johnson at aquaducks@westfieldynj.org.
