Bear Spotted Hanging In Union County Tree

ELIZABETH, NJ — City officials in Elizabeth are reassuring residents that there is “no immediate danger” following multiple bear sightings reported over the weekend and again Monday.

In a statement shared on social media, the City of Elizabeth said the bear is currently resting in a tree while New Jersey Fish & Wildlife officials continue monitoring the situation and working on a plan to safely secure the animal.

“The City of Elizabeth would like to reassure residents that there is currently no immediate danger to the community regarding the bear spotted earlier this weekend and today,” the city said in its statement.

According to the city, 5th Ward Councilman Carlos Gallman has remained at the scene throughout the incident, helping coordinate communication efforts and provide updates to residents and members of the media.

Officials have not released additional details about where the bear was spotted or how long it has been in the area.

New Jersey Fish & Wildlife officials continue to monitor the situation.
