UPDATE: Woman Armed With Loaded Gun Causes Standoff in Westfield
Breaking: Westfield Police warned residents to stay in their homes and not call while they tried to talk to the resident.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield Police were in a standoff with a Grandview Avenue woman, who barricaded herself inside her home with a loaded gun, for hours on Thursday night, Westfield Police Chief David Wayman told Patch.
Police responded to a welfare check around 9 p.m. on Thursday when they came across the woman who barricaded herself inside the bedroom with a gun. She told the officer to leave or she would shoot him through the door, Wayman said.
While leaving the home, officers evacuated another occupant inside. Officers then set up a perimeter around the home and evacuated neighboring homes.

Police had sent out an alert through Nixle shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 12 warning residents to stay indoors and to avoid the area of the 900 block of Grandview Avenue due to police activity.
Residents were also asked not to contact the Westfield Police for non-emergencies during that time.

Westfield Police Department Emergency Service Unit and Crisis Negotiator arrived and used a megaphone to try and make contact with the woman inside. Police could be heard on the megaphone in neighboring towns such as Clark and Garwood, according to Facebook communities.
All attempts to contact the woman failed so the Westfield Police Department Emergency Service Unit went back into the home, where they forced themselves into the bedroom and got the woman, who had a loaded .40 caliber handgun, Wayman said.
The woman was taken into custody and later transported to Overlook Hospital for evaluation.
Westfield Police sent out another Nixle alert around 12:30 a.m. Friday letting residents know the incident was resolved.
"There is no threat to the community. Normal activity may resume," Westfield Police said.
Nobody was injured during the incident. The Westfield Police Detective Bureau is investigating the matter and will conduct a review with the Union County Prosecutor's Office to consider any charges. At this time she has not been charged.
