Cicadas Spotted in Westfield: Send Us Your Photos

While the Scotch Plains invasion began last week, Westfield residents are just starting to see and hear evidence that the creature who pays visit every 17 years is back in town.
Mike Sabatell sent us this photo of a cicada sighting last week at his home on Edgewood Terrace.

"I believe this one is an over-achiever," wrote Sabatell when temperatures were still below 60 degrees. "Still a bit cold for them to come up from the ground."
Known as the East Coast II brood, these cicadas will emerge between April and June. The result? A 7 kHz buzz could fill the region as the cicadas try to attract mates.
