Congregation Beth Israel Offers Class on Jewish Mysticism and Kabbalah
Scotch Plains Synagogue To Hold Adult Education Course
Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains will hold an eight-session adult education course, “Jewish Mysticism and Kabbalah,” taught by Dr. Azzan Yadin-Israel, Professor of Jewish Studies and Classics at Rutgers University. Classes begin on September 7 and meet from 7-9:30 p.m. on eight Wednesday evenings. The course is open to adults in the community, with no prior knowledge required.
The course will lift the veil of mystery surrounding the ancient practice of Jewish mysticism and Kabbalah. The class will examine key terms, such as mysticism and esoteric knowledge. The course will also introduce core Jewish texts, including the Bible and Rabbinic sources, and will culminate with the Zohar, the masterpiece of medieval Jewish mysticism.
Tuition is $400 for all eight classes. Class dates include: September 7, 14, 21 and 28; October 12, 19 and 26; and November 2. To register, send a check to Congregation Beth Israel and write “Mysticism” in the memo.
