Westfield Updates Coronavirus Case Count
ALSO: Free coronavirus testing at the park Thursday.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield will get free coronavirus testing Thursday at a local park.
"Thanks to Regional Health Officer Megan Avallone for coordinating with the county to bring their mobile covid testing unit to Westfield," she said in her opening remarks at Tuesday's council meeting, "first to Westfield Senior Housing, followed by Tamaques Park on Aug. 20."
On Friday, she said that the Union County COVID-19 Mobile Test Unit will be in Tamaques Park on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Testing is free and available to any resident.

"It’s important to get tested if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms, have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive, or were recently in a large crowd where social distancing was hard to maintain," said Brindle. "Advance registration is required, and can be arranged online, or by calling 908-518-4307."

WESTFIELD CORONAVIRUS STATISTICS (UPDATED FRIDAY)
- Mayor Brindle had said on Tuesday that the town had received confirmation of four new cases since the last update on Friday, one per day, bringing the total to 355.
- On Friday, Aug. 14, she said that there had been five new cases since Tuesday — two on Wednesday, three on Thursday, and none today, bringing the total to 360.
- Total fatalities remain at 43 since the most recent death on June 3.

STATE UPDATES
- On Tuesday, Gov. Phil Murphy said the number of cases statewide has risen to 186,594, and 14,054 confirmed deaths have been reported. That included 699 new cases since the day before and eight newly confirmed deaths.

- If you're a Union City resident, you can make an appointment at the county testing site by calling 908-214-7107.
