Daniel Family Dominates County Swim Competition

Results from Friday night's meet at Memorial Pool.

The Daniel swimming family of Westfield is up to it again.

Two of the five swimmers in the family won three events apiece at Friday night's annual Union County Outdoor Swim League Championships at Westfield's Memorial Pool.

Erica Daniel won the 100 IM, 50 breast and 50 butterfly in the 13-14 age group for Nomahagen Swim Club. Ryan captured the 100 and 50 freestyles and the 50 butterfly in the 11-12 age groups.

Ryan won the 100 in 1:18.444, beating teammate Griff Morgan's 1:19.90. He won the 50 free in 30.84 and cruised in the butterfly.

No team standings were kept -- this was a night for individual performance.

"I tried really hard; I tried to push my walls and that helped my races,'' said Ryan, who'll be a seventh grader at Edison Intermediate School.

"They were all about on, like the same,'' added Ryan. Swimming for the Westfield YMCA. "It was fun; it was a very good experience.''

Ericka, who'll be a freshman at Westfield High in the fall, took the breast in 41.07, the IM in 1:15.94 and rolled to a victory in the butterfly with a 33.22. The Daniels are members of both pools Memorial and Nomahagen pools and are able to compete for both since they are in different leagues.

Nomahagen's Mike Oster was also a triple winner. He won the 15-18 (100) in 1:06.97, the 50 (27.37) and the backstroke (30.62).

Nomahagen's Oria Alexander captured the 15-18 backstroke in 33.59.

Memorial's Emily Weiszczek won the 50 freestyle and backstroke in the 13-14 age group. She clocked 31.63 for the 50 and 38.23 in the backstroke.
Memorial's Stefan Crisler won the 11-12 breast in 41.40.

"I think they did very well. It was about individual awards and doing best times, '' said Memorial coach Judy Lee, whose team won the regular season title. "Based on my hand held times I thought we did very well in terms of getting best times.''

Manor Pool's Phil Hessemer won the 15-18 breast in 37.00
