Downtown Westfield Corp. Hosts Girls' Night Out
More than 70 businesses are offering deals and discounts.

Local merchants are gearing up to offer a festive evening of shopping, dining and fun. Girls' Night Out, organized by the , will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 19.
The response to the event has been overwhelming, according to Sherry Cronin, executive director of the DWC. As of Tuesday, more than 1,500 women had registered to attend. While 32 percent are from Westfield, ladies from 135 New Jersey towns and seven other states have signed up as well.
The evening has become a biannual event that residents and local business owners look forward to, Cronin noted.
"We had one in fall of 2010 and two in 2011, this is our fourth and we'll have another one this fall," she said. "It's a great night."

giveaways to the first 1,000 registrants will be provided by the DWC. Wine/Shoe Bags are being offered by and . Although the DWC originally promised gifts to the first 800 guests, they increased the amount when they saw an early surge in registrations. Additional giveaways will be supplied by , , , , Barnabas Health, and Localery.com.
Live jazz band, Watson, will be entertaining outdoors near the registration area at the intersection of Elm and East Broad Streets. The 'Mens' Night Out' component of Girls' Night Out features chilvalrous local dignitaries and volunteers greeting women at the event and opening doors for them outside downtown shops.

Cronin said retailers go out of their way to make the evening special.
"Some shops are offering wine and cheese, others will have discounts of up to 40 percent off or other giveaways," she said.
"I think it's going to be great," Cronin said. "The weather looks great. We're really pleased with the interest we've had not just from the ladies but from the merchants as well."
