Dumpster Fire Breaks Out Near Westfield Border

Fire crews responded after a dumpster was found fully engulfed near East South Avenue, officials said.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Fire crews responded Tuesday night after multiple 911 calls reported a large dumpster fire near the Westfield and Garwood border, officials said.

Dispatch received the calls around 10:22 p.m. in the area of East South Avenue and Windsor Avenue.

Engine 5 arrived first and found a dumpster fully engulfed in flames, according to fire officials. No nearby buildings were involved.

Ladder 1 and Engine 4 responded shortly after, and crews worked together to bring the fire under control.

Because of the location near the border, the Garwood Fire Department also responded to assist.

The fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
