'Easy Targets:' Three Cars Stolen Sunday In Westfield

All three vehicles were left unlocked and with the keys or fobs inside, police said.

WESTFIELD, NJ - Cars were stolen from Ward 1, Ward 2 and Ward 3 on Sunday according to the Westfield Police Department.

Three cars, one on Thomas Court, one on Roger Avenue and one on Bradford Avenue were taken. All three vehicles were unlocked, and all had either keys or a key fob inside, police said.

Police said that video of the thefts shows the suspects pulling car door handles and entering multiple other unlocked vehicles to determine if keys were inside. The Westfield Police Department once again are reminding all residents to secure any belongings inside of vehicles and keep them locked at all times.

These thefts remain under investigation and residents are asked to contact the WPD with any related information or evidence. The non emergency number is 908-789-4000.

Mayor Shelley Brindle seconded the police statement.

"I’m not really sure what more we can do other than to keep reminding residents to lock their cars. Yes. It can happen to you," Brindle said. "These criminals will keep coming here as long as they know we’re easy targets. I won’t even mention the strain this puts on our Police Department."
