According to Assistant Prosecutors Robert Vanderstreet and Aran McNerney, who prosecuted the case, witnesses at the scene said Jean and the victim were involved in a minor car accident in the area.
Following the accident, Jean tried to flee the scene while the victim began taking photos of his car. At that point, Jean drove his car toward the victim, who ran onto the lawn to avoid being struck.
Jean drove onto the lawn and deliberately struck the victim numerous times before fleeing the scene. Jean was later found by Elizabeth Police Officers sitting in the damaged vehicle. He was then charged and taken into custody.
"I hope this sentence can provide some assurance to the victim and her family, as well as the community, that we will not tolerate these egregious offenses and will expend all of our efforts to bring offenders to justice," said Daniel.
