LIAM’S ROOM TO HOST 4nd ANNUAL MINI-OLYMPICS & HOMERUN DERBY FUNDRAISER IN WESTFIELD

Liam’s Room, Inc. is proud to announce its fourth annual event to be held Saturday, April 2nd at Gumpert Park from 12-5 in Westfield, New Jersey.  This event is being held to raise funds for Liam’s Room, a not for profit organization founded by Peter and Lisa McNamara, of Westfield, New Jersey, in memory of their son, Liam. This community Mini-Olympic event and homerun derby is open to all ages ~ Kids, Families, and Adults.  In addition, food, games and entertainment will be available.  Please go to the website: www.liamsroom.org to register to volunteer, as well as to register for the Home Run Derby or become a sponsor.  

Tickets will be sold for:
30-Yard Dash
Children will be timed as they run 30 yards.  Fastest times in each age group will win prizes. 
Long Jump
Similar to Olympic event, children will get running start and jump as far as they can
Football throw
Children will attempt to throw a football and either hit a target or through a tire. 
Baseball throws w/ radar device
Children throw a baseball inside a contained area and a radar device measures their speed.
Home Run Derby
Children & Adults will attempt to hit softballs beyond a designated area.
Lacrosse throw
Children will "throw" a lacrosse ball at a target set up inside the backstop.
Soccer Target Goal
Children will "kick" a soccer ball at varying lengths into a target covered goal.

The purpose of Liam’s Room is to provide pediatric palliative care in area hospitals.  The goals of Liam’s Room include the creation of an inpatient room for families whose children have been diagnosed with a chronic, potentially life limiting illness. These rooms will be equipped with all of the amenities that a child’s room should offer, as well as provide as much comfort to the entire family.  In addition, Liam’s Room will also assist in providing the necessary resources to help families in navigating their child’s care.  Liam’s Room is currently operating at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey as the first location and hopes that it will be the model for more.
