The Westfield Community Band, under the direction of Dr. Thomas Connors, begins a season of celebrating their 100th Anniversary Season, with a concert on Sunday, April 29th at 3:00pm at Westfield High School.
The afternoon’s concert will include a variety of symphonic works, including “Pineapple Poll”. “Pineapple Poll” is a Gilbert and Sullivan inspired comic ballet, based on various Gilbert and Sullivan works from the late 1870’s, including the HMS Pinafore.
The featured work for the performance will be “Sinfonia No. 4” by New Jersey Composer, Bruce Yurko. Band President, Barry Rosenberg noted, “with the approaching 100th anniversary concert season, the band was seeking to perform a composition that represented concert music in its most current form”, which inspired the incentive for the band to commission a brand new composition, “Sinfonia No. 4”.
Additional selections for the concert include: “Fanfare, Romance and Finale” by Philip Sparke, “Sea Songs” by R. Vaughan Williams”, “American Overture for Band” by Joseph Willcox Jenkins and “March, Opus 99” by Sergey Prokofiev.
The Westfield Community Band is sponsored by the Westfield Recreation Department, Bruce Kaufman, Director.
The band’s summer concert series kicks off on Thursday, June 28th for four weeks, in Mindowaskin Park.
