The Westfield Memorial Library is pleased to present a program on the anniversary of Charles Addams' 100th birthday on Saturday, January 7 at 10:30 a.m. The library is located at 550 East Broad Street. Addams, a Westfield native and cartoonist with a particularly macabre sense of humor, was the creator of "The Addams Family," a popular and slightly twisted television show of the 1960's. The program will be presented by Addams aficionado, Ron MacCloskey. Also a Westfield native, Mr. MacCloskey discovered at an early age that he could draw and loved cartooning. As a hobby, he fell in love with monster movies. That led to his enjoyment of "The Addams Family." He started collecting memorabilia and now owns over 100 items. In 1991 when the Paramount film came out, he approached the town with the idea of doing something special to honor Mr. Addams. Consequently, Mr. MacCloskey founded a scholarship, gave several talks and had the Addams house on Elm Street declared a historic landmark. The program is free and open to Westfield Memorial Library and MURAL cardholders. (MURAL cardholders belong to libraries that are part of the Middlesex Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries. Check our website to see if your library participates.) To register for the program, visit the library's website at www.wmlnj.org , click on the Online Calendar, or call 908.789.4090 x7951.
