Fatal Halloween Night Car Crash In Union County

While the driver had minor injuries, the driver's 19-year-old sister was pronounced dead at the scene on Thursday night.

ROSELLE, NJ — A fatal car crash on Halloween night claimed the life of a 19-year-old woman from Union County.

At around 11:40 p.m., the Roselle Police were called to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of St. George Avenue and Chandler Avenue.

A 2012 Chevrolet Equinox was driving west when it hit a curb, veered through a fence line, continued through an open lot, and ultimately came to rest in the adjoining Wawa parking lot, said Roselle NJ Police Department.

Roselle firefighters arrived first and provided immediate medical aid.

The driver, identified as Joshua Pryor, 27, of Linden, had minor injuries and was cooperative with authorities.

The driver’s sister, identified as Jayla Pryor, 19, of Linden, who was a passenger in the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) helped with road closures and St. George Avenue was reopened at 9 a.m. Friday.

"The Roselle Police Department would like to extend its gratitude to the Linden Police Department Traffic Team, the Union County Police Traffic Team, and the Union County Sheriff’s Identification Team for their invaluable assistance," said Roselle NJ Police Department.

"Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Jayla Pryor. No family should have to endure such a tragedy. The entire Roselle community stands with the Pryor family, and we send our prayers and support as they navigate this difficult time," said Roselle Mayor Donald Shaw.

The cause of the crash remains unknown and is currently under investigation by the Roselle Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. Officer D. Bembry, a certified crash investigator, is leading the inquiry.
