Greta's Run is coming to Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss!

One of the largest 5k’s in the area, Greta’s Run was founded in memory of Greta Schoenemann, by her childhood friends Ben Nanna and Jayne Ruotolo. Greta was a Westfield High School freshman when she died from injuries sustained from a tree branch that fell on her and her classmates during lunch. Greta’s story, and the stories of so many other loved ones we’ve lost too soon, are part of what make Greta’s Run so special.

“The way our community shows up to support this event has inspired us for years. It’s why we’re so grateful to be the new home of Greta’s Run, with all proceeds supporting our mission here at Imagine, A Center for Coping with Loss,” said Imagine’s founder, Mary Robinson, who was recently named a CNN Hero.

Your support of Greta’s Run will help provide free grief support for children, young adults and families dealing with the death or life-altering illness of a parent, sibling or child. At Imagine, we work to ensure grief and loss are transformed into resilience, empathy, and compassion, and that youth coping with loss grow up emotionally healthy and able to lead meaningful and productive lives. Currently, we serve over 430 participants from 59 New Jersey towns at our centers in Mountainside and Newark.

Looking back, the Schoenemann family wished Imagine existed when Greta died. Now, thanks to your support, Greta’s Run will be part of making sure no child grieves alone. Learn More
