90-Plus Industrial Tank Railcar Train Derails In Union County

Eight railcars were derailed from the track, two of which fell onto their side, said Linden Police.

LINDEN, NJ — An industrial tank railcar derailed on Thursday morning in Linden prompting police and fire to respond.

Just after 7 a.m., a train derailment in the area of Tremley Point Road was reported in Linden.

Police and Fire personnel arrived to find an industrial tank railcar stopped on the tracks across Road to Grasselli, said Linden Police Department.

A 90-plus tank railcar train derailed on the Tremley Point Siding extension of the Conrail Garden State Secondary line, according to initial reports.

Eight railcars were derailed from the track, two of which fell onto their side.

"None of the tanks appear to be breached, and there is no spill at this time. Additionally, no injuries have been reported," said police.

The road to Grasselli has been cleared, but First Responders are expected to remain on the scene while the railcars are removed.

The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
