Irvington Man Killed In Easter Morning Shooting In Elizabeth
A group of people fired at Elizabeth Police who arrived at the scene; police then returned fire before the group fled into Newark: Police.

ELIZABETH, NJ — An Irvington man was killed following an early Easter morning shooting in Elizabeth, the Union County Prosecutor's Office reported.
The victim has been identified as 26-year-old Daniel Louis, according to Michael Sheets, spokesman for the UCPO.
Two Elizabeth Police Officers were in the area of 1120 Elizabeth Ave. at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, when they heard gunshots coming from a parking lot, Sheets said.

A group of people in the lot were determined to have been involved in the shooting and at least one of them fired at the officers, who returned fire, Sheets reported.
Neither of the officers were struck, and it is unclear if any of the people in the group were struck by the officers' return fire, according to the report.

The group of people then fled in a vehicle into Newark where they were able to escape, Sheets said.
In the parking lot, other officers found Louis, who was described as the victim from the initial shooting, according to witnesses.
Louis was reportedly unconscious and suffering from at least one apparent gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, police report.
This matter remains under active joint investigation by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Elizabeth Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and the Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit.
