Kate Hennessy to Discuss New Book at Holy Trinity, Westfield

Kate Hennessy, Youngest Granddaughter of Dorothy Day to Discuss New Book about Her Grandmother at Holy Trinity, Westfield

The Peace and Justice Committee of Holy Trinity and St. Helen’s Parishes invites the public to attend one of two presentations by Kate Hennessy, writer and youngest granddaughter of Dorothy Day's nine grandchildren, at the Holy Trinity Parish Center, 315 First Street in Westfield on Monday, April 23 at 10 am or at 7:30 pm.

Kate is the author of Dorothy Day: The World Will Be Saved by Beauty: An Intimate Portrait of My Grandmother. This book was recently awarded The Christopher Award, an award presented to writers of books which "affirm the highest values of the human spirit."

Kate has travelled the world including teaching English as a second language in Guatemala and to Tibetan refugees in India. This will be an amazing opportunity to hear stories of her courageous work with social justice and The Catholic Worker movement.

As stated in the book, Blessed Among Us, by Robert Ellsberg: “Dorothy Day's cause for canonization was initiated in 2000, and she was named a Servant of God. In his speech before Congress in 2015, Pope Francis, cited her among four 'great Americans' who 'offer us a way of seeing and interpreting reality,' praised her commitment to justice and the cause of the oppressed.”
