LakeView Day Camp turns 75, Opens Time Capsule

The following is a press release from LakeView Day Camp:  (EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ, 7/17/13)—Campers, counselors and alumni will celebrate LakeView Day Camp’s 75th summer of operation this July when they gather for a camp-style birthday party and the much awaited opening of the camp’s 20 year old time capsule.

LakeView Day Camp’s 75th birthday celebration will take place Tuesday, July 23rd from 12:30pm-2:00pm. Each camp division will participate in special themed birthday party games like “Minute to Win It” and “Pin the Tail on the LakeView Donkey” while alumni have the chance to tour camp with the director. Later, the time capsule will be opened and the entire camp family will sing LakeView’s traditional birthday song as the 75th birthday cake, created by the camp’s own cooking staff, is presented.

“LakeView is special,” camp nurse and camper mom Kara Rever says. “At camp you are allowed to be anyone you want to be. Nobody has a preconceived concept of who you are. Kids can leave their school selves behind and reinvent themselves for the summer.”

Camp director & owner, Doug Bartlett, hopes that alumni who visit will see that the spirit of LakeView has stayed strong through the years. “Camp may have changed its look a bit in terms of great new facilities and program offerings. But aside from how fun it is for a four year old to be able to play on a basketball or soccer field that is made just for his size, and beyond how exciting it is for our campers to choose from newer activities like kayaking, ceramics, or high ropes adventure, it’s the traditions we’ve held on to and the community that make the difference. Campers try new things here because it feels safe. It even feels cool. And that’s because everyone around them cares and is rooting for them. I don’t think that spirit has ever changed."
