Learn about Ben Franklin at Westfield Memorial Library

Michael Norris presents a program on the amazing Ben Franklin on Wed Feb 8 at 7:00 pm at the Westfield Memorial Library.


(January 23, 2017) – On Wednesday, February 8 at 7:00 p.m., the Westfield Memorial Library will present, “An Armchair Art Tour: Meeting Ben Franklin.” The Library is located at 550 East Broad Street.

Meeting Ben Franklin will be presented by Michael Norris, PhD, who was an art educator at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for many years.

Through art and artifacts drawn from East Coast museums and collections, Dr. Morris will introduce the audience to the author, printer, political theorist, politician, Freemason, postmaster, scientist, inventor, civic activist, statesman, and diplomat known as Benjamin Franklin.

Dr. Morris earned his BA in classics from the University of California at San Diego, and his MA in classics and Ph.D. in art history at the University of California at Santa Barbara. He spent twenty years at the Cloisters Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has lectured on trips all over the world.

The program is free and open to Westfield Memorial Library and MURAL cardholders. (MURAL cardholders belong to the 43 libraries that are part of the Middlesex Union Reciprocal Agreement Libraries. Founded in 1879, the Westfield Memorial Library—the community’s destination for discovery and ideas—engages minds, entertains spirits and facilitates lifelong learning for people of all ages. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The library will be closed February 20 for Presidents Day.
