Man Arrested In Armed Robbery Of 7-Eleven In Union County

LINDEN, NJ — An Elizabeth man was arrested in connection with the 2020 armed robbery of a convenience store in Linden.

Andrew Medeiros, 29, of Elizabeth, was arrested at his home on Nov. 8, 2023, without incident.

"I want to commend all of the Officers and Detectives who have persevered over the past three and a half years to bring these charges forth," said Police Chief David Hart. "As this case demonstrates, the violent criminals who commit these crimes are never safe, and we will use every resource available to bring them to justice, regardless of how long it takes."

The robbery happened just after 2 a.m. on May 20, 2020. Officers were called to the 7-Eleven store on the 2300 block of E. Edgar Rd on reports of a robbery.

The suspect allegedly entered the store, pointed a black handgun at the cashier, and demanded that he turn over the money from the register, said police.

The cashier surrendered around $500 in cash, and the suspect fled the scene on foot. The cashier was not injured during the incident.

An extensive investigation led by Linden Police Detectives identified Medeiros as the suspect and
resulted in the charges that led to his arrest.

Medeiros is charged with first-degree robbery, as well as second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree aggravated assault. He was remanded to the Essex County Jail pending a scheduled appearance in Superior Court.
