Man Arrested In New Year's Eve Fatal Stabbing In Plainfield
The Plainfield man was arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing his roommate following an argument shortly before midnight on New Year's Eve.

PLANFIELD, NJ — A Plainfield man was arrested for allegedly fatally stabbing his roommate following an argument shortly before midnight on New Year’s Eve, according to the Union County Prosecutor's Office.
Darin Jose Cano Vasquez, 23, is charged with murder and related weapons offenses in connection with the death of 43-year-old Alejandros Cadena-Toapanta.
Cadena-Toapanta was found on the front lawn of a home in the 600 block of West Front Street the suffering from multiple injuries at around 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 31 by Plainfield Police.

He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Vasquez was identified as a suspect and was taken into custody without incident in Plainfield on New Year's Day pending a first appearance in Superior Court later this week, authorities said. The arrest followed an investigation involving the Union County Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, and Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit.

Vasquez could face 30 years to life in state prison on the murder charge.
