Man Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Elizabeth Man: Prosecutor
Joel J. Argueta, 20, of Elizabeth faces up to life in state prison on the charges.
ELIZABETH, NJ — An Elizabeth man was arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death that took place on June 22, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Elizabeth Police Director Earl Graves, and Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca announced Friday.
Joel J. Argueta, 20, was charged on Thursday with first-degree murder and weapons offenses in connection with the shooting of David Guevara of Elizabeth.
On June 23 at around 9:39 p.m., Elizabeth Police Officers responded to the area of Spring Street and 3rd Avenue where they found a man, identified as Guevara, who suffered gunshot wounds to
the head, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Bryan Tiscia, who is prosecuting the case.

Guevara was pronounced dead at the scene.
A joint investigation conducted by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, Elizabeth Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Ballistics Unit led to the apprehension of Argueta.

"We appreciate the hard work and collaboration with our local law enforcement agencies who assisted our office in apprehending the suspect," Daniel said. "We hope that this arrest can bring
some small measure of comfort to all those grieving Mr. Guevara."
Argueta faces up to life in state prison on the charges.
