ELIZABETH, NJ — A man on a bicycle was decapitated when he was hit by a car driving through a red light on Route 1&9 in Elizabeth on Sunday night, police said.
Around 10:30 p.m., a 35-year-old man was crossing Route 1&9 North and Spring Street on a bicycle when a 20-year-old driver went through a red light and decapitated the bike rider, according to Elizabeth Public Information Officer Ruby Contreras.
A witness told News 12 that the bike was split in two following the crash.

An investigation is ongoing. No notification has been made to the man's next of kin as authorities are still searching for family members.
The driver reportedly stayed on the scene following the crash.
