Man Sentenced To 25 Years For Rape Of Child In Union County

An investigation found that the young girl was sexually assaulted by Luis Oxlaj of Middlesex between the ages of 8 and 9 years old.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A Middlesex man was sentenced to 25 years in state prison for the rape of a child in Union County in 2021, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel announced Monday.

"This sentence may not erase the trauma inflicted on the victim, but it sends a clear message: sexual assault will not be tolerated," Daniel said. "The Union County Prosecutor’s Office is committed to pursuing the prosecution of individuals who prey on vulnerable children."

On March 20, Luis Oxlaj, age 40, was sentenced to 25 years in State Prison, where he must serve 25 years before being eligible for parole under New Jersey’s Jessica Lunsford Act.

Oxlaj will also be subject to Parole Supervision for Life andwill be required to register under Megan’s Law.

Oxlaj was previously found guilty by a Union County jury on Nov. 21, 2024, of one count of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, one count of second-degree sexual assault, and one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

An investigation found that the young girl was sexually assaulted by Oxlaj between the ages of 8 and 9 years old, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Nicole Buermann, who prosecuted the case.

The investigation, led by UCPO Detective Jessica Tattoli, was initiated after a referral from the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
