Flames and smoke can be seen from neighboring communities including at Newark Airport.

"The smoke you're smelling and seeing this morning across SI and NYC is from a very large industrial fire in Elizabeth, New Jersey," said Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo.

There are no reported injuries at this time and no reports of anyone inside of the building, said Contreras.

As of 10:30 a.m., the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management said they are working with Hudson Regional Health Commission (HRHC) as they have sent monitors into downtown Bayonne to check air quality.

"There is currently no cause for concern from smoke over the city," said Bayonne OEM.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and remains under investigation.
