Mayor Asks For Support For Westfield Family After House Fire

Two dogs were killed and the Mckeon family of three was left displaced after a fire on May 7.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Support for the Westfield family of the McKeons continues as Mayor Shelly Brindle asks the community for help.

"While we’re grateful that no one was injured and that the occupants weren’t home, their house was destroyed and their two dogs didn’t survive," said Brindle, who also commended the Westfield Fire Department's efforts at the May 9 Council meeting.

Brindle noted that the McKeon family is familiar to many in town.

"They are longtime Westfield residents and public servants," said Brindle, who referenced a GoFundMe fundraising site for the family. "Please consider helping out this long-time resident family."

"Luckily the family was not present at the time of the incident however, tragically their dogs, Hooper and Brody, were found deceased in the aftermath of the fire," wrote Vince Boado on the GoFundMe site.
