Michael Robert Construction of Westfield Wins Renovation Award

The Westfield native won first place for Best Historic Renovation from the Community Builders & Remodelers Association of NJ.

a Westfield-based home construction company owned by Westfield resident and native, Mike Mroz, won an award during the Community Builders and Remodelers Association of New Jersey awards dinner in June.

The company won first place in the category of Best Historic Renovation for their work on remodeling, expanding, and preserving the integrity of a Westfield home from the 1930s. This Colonial home underwent a complete renovation in 2011 by reworking the floor plan and adding at 1,500 square foot addition. The project was designed and built by Michael Robert Construction. The goal of the seven-month renovation was to honor the house's Colonial roots and architectural integrity, while incorporating all the modern amenitites to achieve a casual, comfortable feel. The performance of the home was enhanced by incorporating green features provided by Green Energy Improvements, a sister company of Michael Robert Construction. This is one of the only Energy Star Renovations in Westfield, N.J.

The entire home was reworked from the front to back and top to bottom. The front facade and three front rooms (dining room, foyer and formal living room) are the only original spaces. The addition was designed to mimic the existing structure and style. As the judges on the CBRANJ panel noted, this was so well-achieved that visitors to the home often inquire about where the addition begins and the original home ends.
