Minnesota Twins Pick Westfield Native in MLB Draft

Westfield native and Georgia Tech baseball standout has been selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 2015 MLB Draft.

A Westfield native has been selected in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft today.

A.J. Murray, Westfield High School graduate, was taken by the Minnesota Twins in the 14th round, with the 410th overall pick in the draft, according to MLB.com. Murray is listed at 6-feet-1-inch and 216 pounds.

Murray was the team captain for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Third Team in 2015, the university said. Additionally, he was one of only three players to start all 55 games for the Yellow Jackets in 2015.

Murray batted .279 on the 2015 season, hitting 16 doubles, 15 home runs, 51 runs batted in, scoring 49 runs and slugging .582, according to his Georgia Tech athletics profile. He finishes his collegiate career with 42 doubles, 24 home runs, 120 RBI, a .275 batting average and a .459 slugging percentage.
