UPDATE: Thousands Without Power in Union County

Breaking: Westfield, Summit, New Providence, Berkeley Heights, Springfield, Scotch Plains Mountainside, all are affected.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Utility companies are working around the clock to restore power to residents in Union County.

Power was out to more than 500 people in Westfield, but it has since been restored to all but five locals. Many other Union County towns are also without power as of 5 p.m. on Jan. 23 as a strong nor'easter moves along the New Jersey coast Monday, according to power company officials.

  • Elizabeth - Fewer than 5
  • Fanwood - Fewer than 5
  • Hillside - Fewer than 5
  • Kenliworth - Fewer than 5
  • Linden - 1,477
  • Mountainside Boro - Fewer than 5
  • Plainfield City - 127
  • Roselle Boro - Fewer than 5
  • Roselle Park Boro - Fewer than 5
  • Scotch Plains Township - Fewer than 5
  • Westfield - 5

Jersey Central Power & Light outage map is also reporting outages in Union County towns including:

  • Berkeley Heights - 9
  • New Providence - Fewer than 5
  • Springfield Township - Fewer than 5

The JCP&L outage map includes a message from the company that says the power outages are related to the storm and they are assessing the damage.

"We will provide estimated restoration times when they are available," the company said.
