Flash Flood Watch For Union County Thursday Night: NWS

"An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. There is also a marginal risk for flash flooding," says the NWS for the area.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for Union, Hudson, Passaic, Bergen, and Essex counties from 4 p.m. Thursday to 8 a.m. Friday as heavy rains are expected Thursday night.

"A period of heavy rainfall is likely with the passage of a cold front Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. A widespread 1-2 inches with locally higher amounts are possible. The rainfall combined with wet antecedent conditions will result in flash flooding. Locally heavy rainfall may produce flash flooding," said the NWS.

A two-inch rainfall would be about a fifth of what spotters say fell in Union County during the dangerous Tropical Depression Ida, but it's still a significant amount if it falls quickly.
