New Assistant Principal Appointed For Edison Intermediate School

Jacqueline Spring's appointment will go into effect on July 1.

WESTFIELD, NJ — Jacqueline Spring was unanimously appointed as the new Assistant Principal of Edison Intermediate School by the Westfield Board of Education at its Thursday night meeting.

Spring's appointment will go into effect on July 1 with a salary of $111,000.

"I would like to first congratulate Jackie on making the leap and joining the leadership realm," said Superintendent Gonzalez

She had been serving as a Social Studies teacher at Westfield High School since 2005. And in 2015, she began serving as district coordinator of the Project ‘79 program, a college-preparatory alternative that combines strong academics with a humanistic approach to support students who are not achieving the success they would like at Westfield High School.

"I am so humbled and I am so excited to grow into this new position," said Spring at the Wednesday Board meeting.

She added that for her "Westfield is home" and that she was "so fortunate to work with well-respected leaders in this district."

Spring holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
and graduate certification in Social Studies from Rider University. She will complete a Master in
Educational Administration from Kean University in May.

More than 140 applications were reviewed and 12 candidates selected for interviews.

"Mrs. Spring presented as someone who understands adolescent learners, is knowledgeable of
sound instructional practices, and will build positive and meaningful relationships throughout the
Edison school community," said Edison Principal Dr. Matthew Bolton. "She brings a rich background of experiences working to find creative ways to inspire, support, and challenge students and colleagues."

Spring will succeed LaNova Schall who was appointed as principal of McKinley Elementary
School.
