New COVID-19 Booster Shot Available At Westfield Health Department

The local health department is now accepting online appointments for the bivalent booster shot. Moderna and Pfizer will be offered.

WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Regional Health Department is now accepting online appointments for the new COVID-19 bivalent booster shot.

The vaccine is available to residents aged 12 and older, and Moderna and Pfizer will be offered. Only individuals who have completed a primary series eligible, health officials said.

The new bivalent boosters both target the two main Omicron variants BA.4 and BA.5, in addition to targeting the original COVID-19 strain.

Those who have received the new Novavax vaccine are not yet eligible for any booster at this time, according to health officials. Children ages 5 to 11 will continue to receive the monovalent booster shots.

Appointments at the municipal building in Westfield will begin Friday, Sept. 16. People must schedule their appointments in advance online. Click here for available time slots.

Union County also recently announced that vaccine clinics at Warinanco Park Roselle and Plainfield High School will offer the bivalent booster.
