Mochi is a Japanese rice cake made out of mochigome — a soft and chewy rice — and other ingredients, such as water, sugar and cornstarch. The rice is pounded into a paste and molded into a desired shape. Mochimoly’s ice cream-stuffed mochi is sourced fresh from Mochidoki in Manhattan, according to the brand’s website.

Mochimoly’s first brick-and-mortar locations opened in Park Ridge and Millburn in 2022.

Mochimoly co-owner Ki Hong previously told Patch that, while mochi is a hot dessert trend in the U.S., there aren’t many New Jersey stores that have it available.

“[Mochi] is very popular in California and it's slowly making its way to the East Coast,” Hong said. “I think the first store in New York City opened maybe like two and half years ago. So there's only a handful, I would say maybe like six or seven, in New Jersey.”
