WEATHER ALERT: N.J. Wakes Up Friday To 2-4 Inches Of Snow/Rain: Traffic Updates

It’s the storm before the storm.

A system that dumped 2 to 4 inches of snow hit New Jersey late Thursday and early Friday, making a mess of the morning commute.

Forecasters with the National Weather Service announced a Winter Weather Advisory is in place for nearly the entire state.

State Police said there were 69 accidents on highways because of the snow: North: 14; Central: 14, South: 17; Turnpike: 11; Parkway: 13

Here are some other details regarding the Friday snow:

• Precipitation was to begin in many areas as rain, but as temperatures fell, the rain mixed with snow and changed to snow during the overnight hours.
• Snow will impact the Friday morning rush hour and could cause slick spots, mainly on secondary roadways as well as on sidewalks.
• Winds will move north at 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph. Temperatures will fall into the low 30s.

• Plowing and saltingAtlantic City Expressway: As of 6:32am, plowing and salting on the Atlantic City Expressway in both directions between Atlantic City Convention Center/Eastern Terminus in Atlantic City and Western Terminus - NJ 42 in Washington Twp. Use caution, snow equipment in use, SPEED LIMIT REDUCED TO 35 MPH.
• Weather related - New Jersey Turnpike: As of 5:51am, speed restriction and weather-related incidents on the New Jersey Turnpike in both directions from Delaware Memorial Bridge in Pennsville Twp to Interchange 8A - NJ 32 in Monroe Twp. Speed is 35 miles per hour due to roadway conditions, and plowing.
• Weather related - Garden State Parkway: As of 4:48am, speed restriction and weather related incidents on the Garden State Parkway in both directions from Southern Terminus/CR 109 in Cape May to New York State Line in Montvale. Speed is 45 miles per hour due to roadway conditions, salting operations.
• Weather related - Commodore Barry Bridge: As of 4:06am, speed restriction and weather related incidents on the Commodore Barry Bridge in both directions between New Jersey side and Pennsylvania side in Logan Twp. Speed is 35 miles per hour, until further notice.
• Weather related - Ben Franklin Bridge: As of 4:04am, speed restriction and weather related incidents on the Ben Franklin Bridge in both directions between New Jersey side in Camden and Pennsylvania side in Philadelphia. Speed is 35 miles per hour, until further notice.

• Weather related - Betsy Ross Bridge: As of 3:49am, speed restriction and weather related incidents on the Betsy Ross Bridge in both directions from New Jersey Side in Pennsauken Twp to Pennsylvania Side in Philadelphia. Speed is 35 miles per hour, until further notice.
• Overturned tractor trailer, I-78: As of 6:34am, there was an overturned tractor trailer on I-78 eastbound at East of Exit 29 - I-287/US 202/US 206 in Bedminster Twp. Left shoulder closed.
• Debris spill, Palisades Interstate Parkway: As of 8:06am, there was a debris spill on the Palisades Interstate Parkway southbound Exit 3 - US 9W/Orbach Way in Alpine. Left lane blocked.
• Overturned Truck, I-80: As of 8:02am, there was an overturned Truck and an Overturned vehicle on I-80 westbound West of Exit 37 - CR 513/Hibernia Ave in Rockaway Twp. Right and center lanes closed, 30 minute delay.

• Accident, New Jersey Turnpike: As of 7:30am, there was an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike outer roadway northbound south of Molly Pitcher Service Area in Cranbury Twp. Left lane blocked.
• Disabled tractor trailer, I-295: As of 7:12am, there was a disabled tractor trailer and an earlier Incident on I-295 northbound north of Exit 45 - Mount Holly Rd/Rancocas Rd in Westampton Twp. Median closed,10-15 minute delay.
• Accident, NJ 55: As of 6:17am, there’s an accident on NJ 55 southbound South of Exit 29 - CR 552/Sherman Av in Millville. Left shoulder closed, use caution.
• Jack-knifed tractor trailer, I-295: As of 6:16am, there’s a jack-knifed tractor trailer on I-295 northbound North of Exit 45 - Mount Holly Rd/Rancocas Rd in Westampton Twp. Left lane closed, 5-10 minute delay.

• Delays, New Jersey Turnpike - Hudson County Extension: As of 6:35am, there were delays on the New Jersey Turnpike - Hudson County Extension eastbound from Interchange 14 - I-78 to west of Newark Bay Bridge in Newark. 1 1/2 mile delay, due to volume.
• Delays, NJ 139 Lower: As of 6:33am, there were delays on NJ 139 eastbound between Tonnelle Avenue and Jersey Ave in Jersey City due to volume.
• Delays, George Washington Bridge: As of 6:30am, there were delays on the George Washington Bridge eastbound approaching New Jersey side/Upper Level Toll Plaza in Fort Lee. The travel time is 15 minutes from Interstate 95 at Interstate 80 to the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.

The Weather Channel named the storm “Winter Storm Lexi,” saying it delivered a quick-hitting stripe of snow from the coastal mid-Atlantic into eastern New England Friday.

The storm was named on Thursday afternoon after winter storm warnings were issued by the National Weather Service for more than five million people.
