One Westfield Place Earns 2023 New Jersey Future Smart Award

WESTFIELD, NJ — One Westfield Place (the Lord & Taylor/Train Station Redevelopment Plan) has been named a winner of the 2023 New Jersey Future Smart Growth Awards.

New Jersey Future (NJF) announced this year’s 10 award-winning projects and leadership honorees as part of their 21st annual Smart Growth Awards on Thursday.

"Bold new plan for reuse of a shuttered department store building and integrated green design strategies to reinvigorate Westfield and convert the space into a vibrant, mixed-use downtown," wrote NJF of One Westfield Place.

New Jersey Future has honored smart planning and redevelopment in New Jersey through the Smart Growth Awards since 2002, totaling 142 projects.

An awards ceremony will be held on October 3, at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center.

Brindle noted that as part of the preparation for October’s awards ceremony, NJ Future sent a production crew to Westfield last week to capture footage for the video to accompany their award.

Brindle said she was "thrilled to speak about the project." HBC | Streetworks Development Chief Communications Officer Trenesa Danuser and Downtown Westfield Corporation Board Chair and Akai Lounge owner Lillian Pien also were part of the filming.

"This prestigious award is the latest in a series of third-party endorsements from planning professionals throughout New Jersey – from both industry organizations and state agencies – recognizing the vision behind One Westfield Place to encourage smart growth values and designs, and to position Westfield for long-term success," said Brindle. "I’m proud of this achievement, and remain very enthusiastic about our community’s future."
