Paper Shredding Events Coming Up In Union County This September

Drive-up events in Cranford and Westfield are scheduled for later in September in Union County.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Two drive-up paper shredding events are scheduled in Cranford and Westfield this September for residents of Union County.

Residents may bring their personal documents and sensitive papers to the free events, sponsored by the Union County Board of County Commissioners.

On Saturday, Sept. 17, trucks will be at Union County College, Parking Lots 5A and 5B, 1033 Springfield Avenue, Cranford.

On Friday, Sept. 23, residents can bring their documents to the Westfield Memorial Pool (713 Cumberland Street, Westfield).

The events are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine. If shredding trucks reach capacity, the events may finish early.

There are two more free paper shredding events in October, the county said, before a winter hiatus.

Here are some event parameters from the county:

  • Any Union County resident can bring their sensitive documents to either event, regardless of their home town.
  • Union County’s paper shredding events are drive-up only and contact-free. Drivers must remain in their cars while staff unloads their papers. A mobile shredding truck will securely shred the papers on site.
  • All documents must be clean and dry. No pre-shredded paper will be accepted. Bindings, large plastic or metal clips, and other paraphernalia should be removed.
  • As a reminder, Union County’s paper shredding events are for sensitive, personal documents only. No businesses are allowed to participate. Magazines, junk mail and other waste paper should be recycled through a municipal recycling program.
