Pedestrian Fatally Hit By SUV Reversing Out Of Driveway In Union

The fatal crash was reported on Friday.

UNION, NJ — A woman was killed when an SUV was backing out of a driveway in Union Township on Friday, said police.

On Feb. 21 at around 3:19 p.m., the Union Police Department responded to a fatal motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on Spruce Street.

A 2004 black Chevrolet Suburban being driven by a 62-year-old man from Union was reversing from a driveway when he hit a pedestrian walking west on Spruce Street, said police.

The pedestrian was taken to University Hospital and succumbed to her injuries.

Union Police implemented an alternate traffic pattern, detouring Spruce Street for around four hours while the crash scene was processed.

The investigation is being conducted by Officer William Piliego of the Union Police Department.

This investigation is ongoing pending further information and witness statements. Any witnesses to this crash are asked to contact the Union Police Department Traffic Bureau at 908-851-5070.
