Union County Woman Charged With DUI After Hitting Pedestrian: Prosecutor

The impact to the pedestrian was significant enough to cause serious bodily injury, which includes severe injury to his legs: prosecutor.

ELIZABETH, NJ — A Union County woman has been charged with driving under the influence after hitting a pedestrian with her car in Newark, acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino said.

On Wednesday at 8:49 p.m., Fanny Tacuri Sanchez, 34, of Elizabeth was driving a gray four-door Nissan Altima in the area of 73 Prospect St. when she struck a 43-year-old Bayonne man.

The impact to the pedestrian was significant enough to cause serious bodily injury, which includes severe injury to his legs, Laurino said. He was transported to University Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

A total of three cars were involved in the accident.

The driver, Sanchez, was also taken to University Hospital. Sanchez, who had an invalid driver’s license, has been charged with driving while under the influence and second-degree aggravated assault.
