Westfield Chief Announces Juvenile-Community Policing Bureau

WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro has recently announced further restructuring of the Westfield Police Department by establishing a Juvenile/Community Policing Bureau within its Investigative Division.

The Juvenile/Community Policing Bureau, which will officially begin operations on August 1, 2020, will be comprised of a Detective Sergeant, a Detective, and three School Resource/Community Service Officers.

It will seek to focus its efforts on ensuring the safety and well-being of not just juveniles, but all of Westfield’s most vulnerable populations – to include senior citizens and those with special needs. It will also endeavor to build strong working relationships and partnerships with all segments of the Westfield community.

This will be accomplished by these officers dedicating themselves to making public appearances, delivering custom-created educational programs and by planning, promoting and engaging in various community policing initiatives.

Chief Battiloro has assigned Sergeant Lauren Maloney, a decorated 14-year veteran of the Westfield Police Department, to supervise the Juvenile/Community Policing Bureau. He also announced the assignment of Detective Elizabeth Savnik, the Westfield Police Department’s Juvenile Officer to the bureau, along with School Resource/Community Service Officers Paul Ferry, Ricardo Johnson, and Tiffany Kenny.

“We continue to look for new and better ways to serve this town,” stated Chief Battiloro. “And I am certain this bureau and these officers will do an absolutely tremendous job in reaching out to and working with the community,” he added.
