A violent, fatal crash took place on a N.J. highway Sunday that may have involved a car driving the wrong way, reports say.

The multi-vehicle crash happened in the northbound local lanes of Route 1&9 near the Renaissance Hotel in Elizabeth, and four people were rushed to University Hospital in Newark, according to RLS Media.

A female victim reportedly suffering fatal injuries shortly before midnight, according to RLS Media.

The crash appeared to be a head-on accident with a car heading in the wrong direction, according to the report. Police set up a crime scene on the scene where they investigated the cause of the crash.

The accident happened on the same day a head-on crash killed at two people on Route 35 on Easter Sunday, according to authorities. The two victims have been identified.
