Protect Mueller Protest Planned At Rep. Leonard Lance's Office

WESTFIELD, NJ - Protestors advocating for the protection of Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller in the wake of Attorney General Jeff Sessions' departure are planning an event Thursday afternoon outside of Rep. Leonard Lance's office in Westfield.

The protest starts at 5 p.m. at Lance's office, located at at 425 North Ave. East, according to an online event page. Attendees say they'll be holding signs and are encouraging those interested to invite friends.

"It's go time. Meet at Leonard Lance's office in Westfield with signs and flashlights," the organizers say on their webpage. "We're mobilizing immediately to demand accountability, because Trump is not above the law."

The event, called the "Nobody is Above the Law Rally," is organized by Summit Marches On.

Organizers describe the rally:

"Donald Trump just crossed a red line, violating the independence of the investigation pursuing criminal charges in the Trump-Russia scandal and cover-up. Trump putting himself above the law is a threat to our democracy, and we’ve got to get Congress to stop him."

Summit Marches On notes that those who sign up to participate in the event agree"

• not to engage in any act of violence or violation of any applicable law,
• to obey the orders of authorized event marshals, and
• that event organizers and sponsors will not be responsible for any injury or damage to your person or property resulting from or occurring in the course of your participating in the event, and you agree to release and forever hold harmless event organizers and sponsors, and their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents from liability for any such injury or damage.

The protest comes a day after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced he is leaving the administration at the request of President Donald Trump.

Sessions, a Trump ally who threw his weight behind the president in the 2016 election, recused himself in March 2017 from the probe investigating Russian interference in the presidential election and possible collusion by members of the Trump campaign. Sessions' deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein, appointed Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller to oversee the probe in May 2017 after Trump fired then-FBI director James Comey.
