Dumpster Fire Ignites Near Home In Westfield

Firefighters responded Sunday afternoon after multiple 911 calls reported flames in a construction-area dumpster.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A dumpster fire in the area of Forest Avenue and Eaglecroft Road brought a quick response from Westfield emergency crews on Sunday afternoon, according to the Westfield Fire Department.

Officials said multiple 911 calls came in at approximately 2:30 p.m. reporting a fully involved dumpster fire near the intersection. Police officers arrived first and located a 30-yard dumpster engulfed in flames in the driveway of a home under construction.

Ladder 1 and Engine 2 responded to the scene and brought the fire under control.

Fire officials said the dumpster was far enough from the structure that the flames did not spread to the home.

Crews remained on scene for about one hour and 45 minutes to fully extinguish the fire and ensure the area was safe.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
