'Quick-thinking' Westfield Boy Saves Home From Fire
Nine-year-old Luka Barsky is credited for bringing his grandfather and babysitter to safety.
WESTFIELD, NJ - The Westfield Police Department are crediting a nine-year-old resident for saving himself, his grandfather, his babysitter and his home from a fire last weekend.
According to officials, Luka Barsky was home with his babysitter and sleeping grandfather while his parents were running an errand. Their toaster oven caught fire and Barsky jumped into action. He called his parents on FaceTime, woke up his grandfather and got him and his babysitter outside to safety, officials said.
The Westfield Police Department and Westfield Fire Department, Westfield FMBA Local 30, quickly responded. First responders said that thanks to the quick thinking and reaction of Barsky, the only damage was to the toaster oven, noting that if a few more minutes had passed the entire wall would have been engulfed in flames.
