Retired Union County Sheriff's K-9 Harris Dies At Age 9

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Retired K-9 Sam, who served the Union County Sheriff's Office, has died at age 9, the police department said Thursday.

"The Union County Sheriff’s K9 Unit is saddened to announce the passing of retired K9 Sam on June 5," said Union County Sheriff's K-9 Unit.

K9 Sam was born in the Netherlands on April 7, 2014, and began his career with the Union County Sheriff’s Office on March 17, 2016.

He was dual-trained in patrol work and narcotics detection.

K9 Sam retired from the Sheriff’s Office in July 2020.

"We want to offer our condolences to Sergeant Current for her loss," said the department.
