Scotch Plains Man Killed While Crossing Westfield Intersection
Police could not release information on the driver or car because they are still investigating.
WESTFIELD, NJ — The Westfield Police Department said Friday that an 87-year old Scotch Plains man was killed that afternoon while crossing West South Avenue at the intersection of North Scotch Plains Avenue.
Westfield Police Chief Christopher Battiloro said the pedestrian was struck by a vehicle traveling west on West South Avenue at approximately 12:52 p.m.
Battiloro said the victim was conscious and alert upon police arrival at the scene, but had sustained significant injuries. The man was transported to University Hospital in Newark by the Westfield Rescue Squad and Atlantic Health System paramedics. He subsequently passed away.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Westfield Police Department’s Crash Investigation Unit, and thus, they could not release more information about the incident, including the driver.
The unit is being assisted by the Union County Police Department’s Crash Scene Analysis Team.
