The second weekend of the tourism season is expected to start with nice weather, but the worst is expected for Sunday. That day is expected to be a washout with soaking rains, according to the National Weather Service.
Strong storms that have impacted the Midwest are expected to move into the area and cause strong, "possibly damaging" thunderstorms hitting mostly severely on Sunday afternoon, according to AccuWeather.

Downpours will expand northeastward over the rest of the mid-Atlantic during Saturday night and continue on Sunday, according to AccuWeather.

Enough rain could fall to cause water to collect in poor drainage areas and on some city streets, according to AccuWeather.
"There is the potential for strong to locally severe thunderstorms on Sunday," AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams said in a release. "The system coming in later this weekend will be strengthening, and it is the right time of year to expect nasty storms in such a situation."
As the downpours cross major highways and storms approach major airports, significant travel delays can occur, according to AccuWeather.

Friday: Showers, mainly before noon. High near 75. Calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a 10th of an inch possible.
Friday night: Patchy fog after 3 a.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 63. Southeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm after midnight.
Saturday: Patchy fog before 7 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 83. West wind 3 to 5 mph.
Saturday night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a 10th of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Sunday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high near 81. Southeast wind 5 to 13 mph becoming southwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Sunday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then scattered showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
