Friends Rally For Westfield Athlete Run Over In Hit-And-Run

It is almost unbelievable that someone would do this, one of her friends said.

Carly Friedman, a soccer and basketball star at Westfield High School before graduating from Rutgers University, was allegedly run over by a car.

Then the car backed up and ran over her again, according to friends who are raising money for her recovery.

Now her friends are coming to Carly's aid and raising money after the horrible hit-and-run accident in Belmar earlier this month.

"We are asking Carly's friends and family for support as she gets back on her feet," according to her GoFundMe page that was set up by Kathleen Bond.

And they're left perplexed as police continue to search for the driver whose car apparently crushed the lower half of Carly's body, according to the GoFundMe page.

Carly, whom friends don't believe will be left paralyzed, graduated from Westfield High School in 2014 after scoring more than 200 points, according to nj.com, and getting nearly 100 steals over her basketball career.

The crash happened on June 1 when the Belmar Police Department received a 911 call on a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a man and woman, police said. They were struck at 1:28 a.m.

The vehicle, a silver colored Cadillac Escalade, fled the scene heading north on E Street in the area of 15th Avenue, police said.

Patrols arrived on scene and found the adult female victim and the adult male victim with injuries sustained by the vehicle. Both victims were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, police said.

The Belmar Police Department and the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Serious Collision Analysis Response Team responded and they're assisting with this ongoing investigation.

The GoFundMe funds, meanwhile, will be used to cover any medical, lodging, or extraneous expenses that may incur in her upcoming months of rehabilitation and to recuperate Carly's share in summer activities she had planned prior to the accident, according to the page.

"We hope this page will inspire Carly's many communities to donate, but also – because we know it will mean more to Carly – we hope this page inspires you to think of the moments when Carly made you laugh, when she did something exceedingly thoughtful, and when she was a true friend," the page said.
