Stolen Loaded Gun Found In Car, 4 Arrested In Union County

UNION, NJ — Four men were arrested after police said they found a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen during a traffic stop in Union Township.

On Oct. 19, Officers Ferreira and Cano Jaco stopped a Nissan pickup truck with multiple equipment violations near 1865 Vauxhall Road, said Union Police Director Carl Riley.

During the stop, officers searched the vehicle and found a loaded 9mm handgun that had been reported stolen in North Carolina, said Riley.

Nyseem McNair, 19, of Jersey City; Kemavi McBryde, 19, of Jersey City; Demetrius Woods, 21, of Bayonne; and Dewayne Rivers, 21, of Newark, were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a handgun.

All four were taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility pending court proceedings.

"Our officers did an outstanding job," said Police Director Carl Riley. "Thanks to their work, there is one less gun on our streets that could be used to harm our residents or our officers."
